Volunteer Opportunities

We are seeking volunteers to assist the team that organizes the 2018 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations, which will take place from 14-16 February 2018. Volunteer opportunities are only available to qualified applicants living in the Greater New York area

Note: Accepted delegates/observers of the current session of the Youth Assembly are not eligible to apply.


Communications & Media Volunteer

  • Report to the head of the communications staff
  • Welcome media representatives at the gate and distribute their passes
  • Live tweet the discussions from each session
  • Assist with the live interviews
  • Take photos or videos for documentation purposes
  • Record or jot down key takeaways from each session
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed

Conference Session Volunteer

  • Welcome and escort conference speakers to appropriate rooms
  • Assist programming staff or conference speakers during session activities or whenever necessary
  • Replenish speaker tables with bottled water every session and  paper nameplates
  • Make sure the conference rooms are clean and alert attendees who litter
  • Maintain room capacity and check-in delegates coming into your assigned room
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Set up and break down the banner for assigned room
  • Move the session materials in and out of the room in coordination with other team volunteers
  • Escort a group of delegates to a Permanent Mission
  • Report to the head of the programming staff

Youth Development Volunteer

  • Identify and engage active and talented youth during the Youth Assembly
  • Assist in implementation of engagement activities 
  • Attend side activities sessions and assist partners as needed
  • Table exclusive opportunities for participants during the conference 
  • Set up and clean up tabling materials
  • Escort a group to a Permanent Mission 
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Report to the head of the youth development team

Supplies & Logistics Volunteer

  • Assist in assembling conference materials before/during the conference and packing them up after the conference
  • Organize the supplies and materials and place them in the appropriate areas
  • Be in charge of conference and evening event supplies
  • Distribute supplies to specific areas
  • Keep an eye on supplies and materials and their whereabouts
  • Acquire or put together additional supplies/materials as needed (i.e. bottled water, name badges)
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Escort a group of delegates to a Permanent Mission 
  • Report to the head of the logistics staff
  • *Must also be available during pre-registration
     

Registration Volunteer

  • Assist in setting up and breaking down the registration desk
  • Welcome attendees in front of the gate and distribute their passes 
  • Check-in attendees as they arrive at the desk and distribute their conference materials
  • Assist delegates with their inquiries
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Move the session materials in and out of the room in coordination with logistics volunteer
  • Escort a group of delegates to a Permanent Mission 
  • Help attendees find their way around the conference venue
  • Assist attendees who are physically disabled or appear to need help
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Guide attendees to assigned seats at the General Assembly Hall
  • *Must also be available during pre-registration

VOLUNTEER AVAILABILITY

Volunteers should be available for:

  • 1-hour Skype orientation any day between 29-31 January 2018 for:
    • Conference Session Volunteers
    • Communications/Media Volunteers
    • Youth Development Volunteers
    • Registration  Volunteers
    • Supplies/Logistics Volunteers
    • Delegate Package Representatives
  • 1-hour In-person orientation any day between 5-9 February 2018 before the conference for:
    • Supplies/Logistics Support Volunteers
    • Delegate Package Representatives
  • Pre-registration day on 14 February 2018
  • All four days of the conference from 14-16 February 2018, plus additional day/s indicated by supervisor.
