New Jersey: Social Venture for Sustainable Development Seminar
Mon, August 6
Arrival & Welcome
Arrive in the early afternoon at the picturesque Florham campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, the “Garden State.” Meet your peer mentors and start the day off with a welcome session from the Vice Provost of FDU and the Youth Assembly Chair. Familiarize yourself with the university through a fun Scavenger Hunt and explore the beautiful campus.
Tues, August 7
SVSD Seminar & Group Project
The full day training class will be dedicated to understanding the nature of social entrepreneurship and analyzing several case studies. Guided by a leading professor of FDU, participants will work with their pre-formed groups to develop a social venture project. Participants will engage through critical thinking, planning, and teamwork building.
Participate in a group session with your specialized peer mentors to learn how they are transforming social venture ideas into real projects and receive guidance on how to improve your own.
End the day with a fun sports activity inspired by the Dizzy Goals Challenge aimed at raising awareness of the Global Goals.
Wed, August 8
SVSD Field Trips
Visit one of the top 10 Fortune 500 companies such as Novartis, to see how leading global innovators are working to implement the SDGs and contribute to global welfare. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in further discussions with senior level executives of the company.
Proceed to visit a local urban farm for a first look at how environmental change is being made in New Jersey. Your experience may include: an indoor vertical farm, a community garden, a green street system, or a rain garden. See first hand how these sustainable initiatives have already made an impact in their local community.
Share your field trip experience with your team members and peer mentors, and discuss how those experiences can help you with your social venture project proposal, and how you can bring some of these ideas back to your local community.

SVSD Project Presentations
With your group, finish your project proposal in the morning and conclude the SVSD seminar with a social venture pitch presentation judged by FDU professors and Youth Assembly organizers. The top ideas will be awarded by FDU and featured at the 22nd Session of The Youth Assembly.
Get excited for one of the most famous cities in the world – New York City. Once you’ve arrived, check into a local university located in lower Manhattan in one of New York’s most dynamic neighborhoods.

Fri, August 10
OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY OF the 22nd session of the youth assembly (YA22) & side activities
Start the day off with a guided tour of the United Nations headquarters led by UN staff. Feel the powerful influence of prestigious meeting venues such as the ECOSOC Chamber room where high-level debates and meetings happen, and discover their work behind-the-scenes.
Proceed to a Permanent Mission Visit & Briefing and learn first hand the work of a UN Permanent Mission towards achieving the SDGs. Prepare for a Q&A discussion with the Mission’s diplomats.
Commence the 22nd Session of The Youth Assembly (YA22) at the United Nations during its official opening ceremony together with over 1,000 youth from around the world. The opening ceremony will feature inspirational speeches by the most influential leaders, experts, and practitioners in global development. Following the ceremony, celebrate the start of the YA22 with your fellow delegates at the Welcome Dinner.

YA22 Thematic SESSIONS I
Attend panel and workshops sessions led by UN officials or heads/representatives of non-governmental organizations, corporations, or local government. Join the conversation about challenges the world is facing and identify opportunities and solutions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the General Assembly in September 2015. Engage with our Youth Assembly team for involvement opportunities, as well as campaigns or media initiatives.
After a full day of events at the UN, Step into the action of one the world’s greatest megacities by exploring Times Square. And don’t forget to share your best pictures for the YA photo contest.

YA22 THEMATIC SESSIONS II
Continue with the final day of panel and workshop sessions at the UN. Don’t miss the last chance to connect with speakers, and participate in campaigns or media initiatives at the UN.
In the evening, explore the historical campus of Columbia University, an Ivy league university and globally renowned institution.
During Culture Celebration, dress up in your traditional cultural outfit and participate in a variety showcase through music, arts, and traditional dance performances with fellow delegates from around the world. Impress your delegate audience with a performance and talent from your home country.
Mon, August 13
YA22 CLOSING CELEBRATION
Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the conclusion of the 22nd Session of The Youth Assembly. Celebrate the winners of the Outstanding Youth Delegate Awards and be inspired by high level keynote speeches. Enjoy a musical festival filled with a multitude of performances, celebrating the role of music and the arts in building global connections and supporting sustainable development.
In the afternoon, join fellow delegates and special guests at the Youth Assembly Gala, the ultimate networking reception event, which will be attended by invited speakers and guests from our partner organizations, United Nations, Permanent Missions, and many more.
Afterwards, celebrate the friendships made and special moments created at the Youth Assembly in one of the most popular and memorable side events. Board the Hornblower Sensation, a spectacular high-class New York yacht, for a DJ dance party and networking while you sail past the illuminated New York City Skyline and Statue of Liberty.

Volunteer Service & Departure
Put into action what you have learned during the Youth Assembly by partaking in a meaningful volunteer experience to make a difference directly in New York City. The activity may require a collaborative physical effort to help the city’s environmental and sustainable initiatives.
Don’t forget to explore the city’s iconic landmarks such as Times Square, the Empire State Building, and its museums before checking out. Take with you the meaningful experiences and memorable friendships you’ve earned along the way. Return home with the knowledge and drive to make global impact starting with your community!
