Volunteer Opportunities

We are seeking volunteers to assist the Youth Assembly Organizing Committee for the 2017 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations, which will take place from February 1-3, 2017. Applications will be accepted until January 6, 2017. Volunteer opportunities are reserved to qualified applicants living in the Greater New York area

Conference Session Support

  • Welcome and escort conference speakers to appropriate rooms
  • Assist programming staff or conference speakers during session activities or whenever necessary
  • Replenish speaker tables with bottled water every session
  • Make sure the conference rooms are clean and alert attendees who litter
  • Maintain room capacity and check-in delegates coming in assigned room
  • Set up and break down the banner for assigned room
  • Move the session materials in and out of the room in coordination with logistics volunteer
  • Escort a group of delegates to a Permanent Mission on the last day
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Report to the head of the programming staff

Communications & Media Support

  • Live tweet the discussion in assigned conference room/s
  • Escort conference speakers or delegates who agrees for an interview to the media hub
  • Assist communications/media team in setting up and breaking down media hub
  • Welcome media representatives in front of the gate and distribute their passes
  • Set up and break down the banner for assigned room
  • Move the media hub materials in and out of the room in coordination with logistics volunteer
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Report to the head of the communications staff
  • Must also be available during pre-registration on January 31, 2017

Photography & Videography

  • Take high resolution and well-composed photos according to the shot list
  • Record videos of important moments and activities based on the shot list
  • Serve as a cameraman for interviews
  • Assist head photographer/videographer if necessary
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Report to the head of the communications staff
  • Must also be available during pre-registration on January 31, 2017

Delegate Package Representative

  • Guide and escort the delegate package participants based on their itineraries
  • Stay with your group and assist them with their inquiries throughout the duration of their package
  • Ensure proper distribution of conference supplies and services to the group members
  • Set up and clean up during special evening events
  • Set up and break down the banner for the evening event venues
  • Move the evening event materials in and out of the venue in coordination with logistics volunteer
  • Escort a group to a Permanent Mission on the last day
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Report to the head of the logistics staff
  • Must also be available during pre-registration on January 31, 2017

Supplies & Logistics Support

  • Be in charge of conference and evening event supplies
  • Assist in assembling conference materials before/during the conference and packing them up after the conference
  • Organize the supplies and materials and distribute them to appropriate teams
  • Monitor supplies and materials and their whereabouts
  • Acquire or put together additional supplies/materials as needed (i.e. bottled water, name badges, paper nameplate)
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Escort a group of delegates to a Permanent Mission on the last day
  • Report to the head of the logistics staff
  • Must also be available during pre-registration on January 31, 2017

Registration, Traffic Direction & Escorting

  • Assist in setting up and breaking down registration desk
  • Welcome attendees in front of the gate and distribute their passes
  • Check-in attendees as they arrive at the desk and distribute their conference materials
  • Assist delegates with their inquiries
  • Help attendees find their way around the conference venue
  • Guide attendees to assigned seats at the General Assembly Hall
  • Assist attendees who are physically disabled or appear to need help
  • Move the registration materials in and out of the lobby area in coordination with logistics volunteer
  • Escort a group of delegates to a Permanent Mission on the last day
  • Assist main staff with other tasks as needed
  • Must also be available during pre-registration on January 31, 2017

Fall/Winter Internship

We are currently accepting applications for 2017 Fall and Winter Internship. We are looking for university, graduate or young professionals candidates who will assist staff on all aspects of planning for the 2017 Winter Youth Assembly at the United Nations, which will take place from February 1-3, 2017.

Interns must be available to work in our office located in Greenwich, Connecticut, and commit up to 20 hours per week until the end of February. A variety of positions are available to qualified applicants living in the Greater New York area

Outreach Intern

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist staff with contacting Permanent Missions to the UN to coordinate group visits
  • Help coordinate Permanent Mission visits and briefings during the Youth Assembly
  • Contact colleges and universities and set up meetings with interested delegation partners
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years relevant internship and/or work experience preferred
  • Experience working with the UN or Permanent Missions to the UN preferred
  • Global perspective and strong cultural awareness

Communications & Media Intern

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • 1-2 years relevant internship and/or work experience preferred
  • Assist in generating content for social media
  • Conduct research on social media trends and competitive insights
  • Answer delegate inquiries on social media platforms
  • Engage and interact with the online community
  • Assist in contacting media representatives
  • Assist in planning communication and media strategies
  • Help draft and proofread press releases and other communications vehicles as needed
  • Help maintain digital files of photos, videos, and text content 
  • Assist with video content development
  • Help coordinate the media hub during the conference
  • Other miscellaneous tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Assist logistics coordinator in leading groups of delegates during the Youth Assembly and extended programs

Logistics Coordinator

We are looking for a professional-level candidate to oversee and facilitate the logistics of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations. The position is on a project basis until February 28, 2017 with the possibility of being extended. The preferred candidate should be able to start immediately and have at least 1 year of experience with conference planning and logistics coordination. 

Job Functions

  • Coordinate all aspects of the logistics for the production of the Youth Assembly conference and delegate packages, and special evening events (i.e. conference supplies, transportation, food, accommodation, etc.)
  • Seek and maintain good relationships with vendors and suppliers 
  • Oversee the processing of delegate package registrations and payment
  • Coordinate with group leaders of delegations registered for the delegate package
  • Provide prompt response to delegate inquiries by phone and email
  • Track logistical activity and develop an integrated schedule for reservations, payments, and other deadlines
  • Implement logistics onsite (at the hotel and conference venues) and ensure effective distribution and rendering of delegate package services and opportunities to participants in coordination with group leaders
  • Propose new ideas to improve the current delegate package, including the special evening events
  • Proactively handle and troubleshoot any emerging issues
  • Evaluate logistics and identify best practices to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Responsible for assigning tasks to a team of interns working on logistics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience
  • A strong understanding of the organizational mission and the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, including knowledge of global current affairs and Sustainable Development Goals
